Animal Welfare supply chain

Increasingly aware of consumer values, Italia Alimentari is focusing on upgrading the supply chain of its Italian pork products by selecting breeders with certified control systems for all stages of the supply chain who guarantee animal welfare, sustainable and safe feed, the responsible use of veterinary medicine and high biosecurity standards. Today, the range of products is constantly growing and it counts on various different items: Guanciale with pepper, Prosciutto di Parma PDO, Nostrano salami, Pancetta, Mortadella and others.

Animal welfare

The Italia Alimentari supply chain adheres to the following strict animal welfare standards:

  • animals must be able to express their natural behaviours through access to suitable spaces and contact with peers at all life stages, with a particular focus on birth and weaning;
  • multiple boxes containing manipulable material such as straw and soft wood must be included in the pigs’ environment to ensure their exploratory needs are met;
  • the animals’ feed and the microclimate (humidity and temperature) of their enclosures must be managed by automated systems;
  • animal-based measures must be used to ensure the animals’ physical and psychological health.

No antibiotics

No antibiotics are administered to animals on any of our farms in the last 120 days of their lives.  The responsible use of medication is only ever allowed when strictly necessary to safeguard animal welfare and under the supervision of a veterinarian.

In addition, analytical testing of feed and meat is conducted to ensure proper drug management.

100% Italian

Our finished products are made exclusively with 100% Italian-origin meat, from pigs born and reared in our country.
All meat is processed in our Italia Alimentari factories in Italy.
